Welcome Back!We are so excited to kick off the 20-21 school year! This year is starting in a new, unique way - 100% virtual! We understand that the COVID-19 pandemic has created challenges and hardships for families, and please know that we are here to support you any way that we can. As we begin this school year and navigate new digital platforms together... we know that there will be challenges, hiccups, technology glitches, and so much more! However, there will also be amazing learning, FUN, growth, connection, engagement, and support. We can't wait to see our Champions - even if it's through a screen! Meet the CounselorsYour student's counselor will visit their CTLS classroom on a 2-3 week rotation to teach lessons on topics such as feelings, coping skills, kindness, problem solving, and more. Your student's counselor will also be leading small groups and one-on-one check ins. If you believe your student could benefit from either small group or individual counseling services, please reach out to their school counselor. We are here for you!

Hi there, Cheatham hIll Families! The school year is flying by, and we can't believe it's already February! With the holiday season behind us... we want to take a moment to say thank you to our wonderful community for making our holiday assistance program such a success. We were blown away by your support and generosity for our families in need! THANK YOU! Our counseling department is busy creating and delivering core curriculum lessons with students in grades K-5. In January, we began our "Career Center" lessons with students. During these educational, play-based lessons, students learn about the educational requirements of certain careers, salary information, and experience what a "day in the life" is like! Moreover, the start of a new semester often means the start of new small group opportunities for students. If you are interested in a small group experience for your student, please contact the grade level counselor. As always, if you think your student would benefit from additional support here at Cheatham Hill--please let us know! We are here to help! A note to our 5th grade families...Please be on the look out for communication from your child's school counselor and/or classroom teacher in regard to middle school visits. Our counseling department is working diligently with our feeder schools to set up field trips for our rising 6th graders!
Hi there, Cheatham Hill Families! It's hard to believe that is it already November! This school year is flying by, and we wanted to take a moment to give you a quick update from our counseling department. Since the end of August, we have been busy visiting the classrooms for our Classroom Counseling lessons. Students in grades K-5 receive a counseling lesson every 2-3 weeks. Your students have been learning about diversity, acceptance, bullying, kindness, character traits, coping skills, feeling identification, and SO much more. Be sure to ask your student what he/she has been learning with his/her counselor! On October 22nd, we hosted a parent workshop on Managing and Understanding Anxiety. A local counseling center, Art it Out presented on strategies to support students with anxiety. They will be visiting again in the Spring, so be on the look out for more information on their next parent session! We are also busy preparing for our Holiday Assistance program! The Champion Tree will be on display beginning Monday, November 18th. If you would like to help one of our Cheatham Hill students in need, please complete the parent permission form (going home November 15th), and your student can select a "star" from our Champion Tree! After selecting a "star," please purchase the item, leave it unwrapped, and return it to the counseling suite (star attached!) by Monday, December 9th. Our community is SO wonderful, and we are truly blown away every year by your support of our Champions in need! If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out! ~Mrs. Ostendorf, Mrs. Mason, and Mrs. Bartlett Hello, Cheatham Hill Families! **Also, please note that Mrs. Bartlett will be at Cheatham Hill from 8:15 - 2:30 on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. August Updates from Our Counselors!Mrs. Mason - Kindergarten & 3rd Grade This school year, I have the pleasure of working with Kindergarten and 3rd Grade. We will begin our lessons together by getting to know one another, as well as how I can and will support them as their School Counselor. Kindergarten students will learn what my role and responsibilities are through association. Students must view a variety of items and figure out what role/responsibility they represent. A time for questions and answers will always be provided, as it is very important for students to have an opportunity to express themselves. 3rd Grade students will also participate in an introductory lesson. They will view pictures pertaining to both my personal and professional lives, so that they may get to know me as a member of their community and as their School Counselor. I will explain my role and responsibilities , confidentiality, how to request an appointment, and more. I will also conduct an Ice Breaker game so that we can all learn new and cool things about each other. Mrs. Bartlett - 1st & 4th Grade This year I am excited to be working with both 1st and 4th grade students at Cheatham Hill. Both grade levels will receive their first lesson focusing on getting to know me as a counselor and what they can expect from me throughout the school year. In 4th grade I will be using clips of a variety of popular song clips to explain my role as a school counselor, when it is appropriate to see me, how to request appointments, confidentiality, topics I will be teaching throughout the year, and much more. In 1st grade I will explain my role by showing and explaining the various tools I keep in my School Counselor's Tool Box. For example, I have a large heart in my tool box to show that Counselors care about all students, and pictures of different emotions to explain that one of my jobs is to help them understand and cope with their feelings. After my Introductory lessons, both the 4th and 1st graders will learn about Coping Skills and healthy ways of handling big/difficult emotions. Then, I will be focusing on Executive Functioning skills in both grades. In 4th grade we will learn about focus, organization, and impulse control. First grade will look slightly different but will also focus on impulse control, expected and unexpected behaviors, and following directions. Mrs. Ostendorf - 2nd & 5th Grade I'm so excited to begin classroom lessons with my 2nd and 5th grade students! Second grade lessons will begin the week of August 19th, and fifth grade will begin the week of August 26th. Our 2nd grade students will receive a "Meet the Counselor" lesson. Some of this may be a review for them, since I was lucky enough to work with most of our second grade students during their first grade year! During this lesson, they will explore my counseling tool box and learn all about my job and ways I can help them! Our 5th grade students will also receive a "Meet the Counselor" lesson. During this lesson, I will introduce myself to students, review my role as a counselor, and play a fun, interactive basketball game! Students will work to answer questions regarding my role as a counselor, and then shoot to earn points for their team if they answer correctly! As a note to families... if you think your student would benefit from small group services or individual counseling, please do not hesitate to reach out! I am here to help! ~Mrs. Ostendorf |
