Hello, Cheatham Hill Families! We are so excited to begin another school year at "The Hill!" There have been a few changes to our counseling department this year. Below, you will see the designated grade level counselor for your student. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns! :)
**Also, please note that Mrs. Bartlett will be at Cheatham Hill from 8:15 - 2:30 on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. August Updates from Our Counselors!Mrs. Mason - Kindergarten & 3rd Grade This school year, I have the pleasure of working with Kindergarten and 3rd Grade. We will begin our lessons together by getting to know one another, as well as how I can and will support them as their School Counselor. Kindergarten students will learn what my role and responsibilities are through association. Students must view a variety of items and figure out what role/responsibility they represent. A time for questions and answers will always be provided, as it is very important for students to have an opportunity to express themselves. 3rd Grade students will also participate in an introductory lesson. They will view pictures pertaining to both my personal and professional lives, so that they may get to know me as a member of their community and as their School Counselor. I will explain my role and responsibilities , confidentiality, how to request an appointment, and more. I will also conduct an Ice Breaker game so that we can all learn new and cool things about each other. Mrs. Bartlett - 1st & 4th Grade This year I am excited to be working with both 1st and 4th grade students at Cheatham Hill. Both grade levels will receive their first lesson focusing on getting to know me as a counselor and what they can expect from me throughout the school year. In 4th grade I will be using clips of a variety of popular song clips to explain my role as a school counselor, when it is appropriate to see me, how to request appointments, confidentiality, topics I will be teaching throughout the year, and much more. In 1st grade I will explain my role by showing and explaining the various tools I keep in my School Counselor's Tool Box. For example, I have a large heart in my tool box to show that Counselors care about all students, and pictures of different emotions to explain that one of my jobs is to help them understand and cope with their feelings. After my Introductory lessons, both the 4th and 1st graders will learn about Coping Skills and healthy ways of handling big/difficult emotions. Then, I will be focusing on Executive Functioning skills in both grades. In 4th grade we will learn about focus, organization, and impulse control. First grade will look slightly different but will also focus on impulse control, expected and unexpected behaviors, and following directions. Mrs. Ostendorf - 2nd & 5th Grade I'm so excited to begin classroom lessons with my 2nd and 5th grade students! Second grade lessons will begin the week of August 19th, and fifth grade will begin the week of August 26th. Our 2nd grade students will receive a "Meet the Counselor" lesson. Some of this may be a review for them, since I was lucky enough to work with most of our second grade students during their first grade year! During this lesson, they will explore my counseling tool box and learn all about my job and ways I can help them! Our 5th grade students will also receive a "Meet the Counselor" lesson. During this lesson, I will introduce myself to students, review my role as a counselor, and play a fun, interactive basketball game! Students will work to answer questions regarding my role as a counselor, and then shoot to earn points for their team if they answer correctly! As a note to families... if you think your student would benefit from small group services or individual counseling, please do not hesitate to reach out! I am here to help! ~Mrs. Ostendorf |
